Cleveland transit agency records another ridership increase in June

For the 15th-straight month, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) registered a ridership increase.

Passenger counts on the Red Line in June soared more than 11 percent year over year, making the June total the highest it’s been in five years, according to the agency. Ridership on the Blue and Green lines jumped 6 percent.

GCRTA officials attribute the increases to a new casino and Marine Week activities, as well as an unseasonably warm month and high gas prices.

In 2012’s first half, GCRTA carried nearly 24 million riders on its rail and bus system, up more than 6 percent year over year. First-half ridership increased 11 percent on the Red Line, and nearly 8 percent on the Blue and Green lines.
