CTA to launch 'Convention Pass' pilot in summer

In July, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will begin testing a new farecard targeted at millions of convention attendees that visit the Windy City each year.

The authority will launch the Convention Pass, or C-Pass, as part of a 10-day pilot during July’s Gay Games. A pass will be provided at no cost to all registered game participants. The cards will be encoded with a fixed start and end date.

CTA is providing the passes in conjunction with event organizer Chicago Games Inc. (CGI), which will pay CTA $150,000 for the cards and provide the authority a database of demographic information for each recipient

“Almost 7 million individuals come to Chicago each year for conventions or conferences and many of them are not familiar with the public transit options available for traveling around the city,” said Chicago Transit Board Chairman Carole Brown in a prepared statement.
