The American Public Transportation Association yesterday released its 2025 Public Transportation Vehicle Database, an annual report that details the fleet characteristics of U.S. and Canadian transit agencies.
The database features information about 155 public transit agencies, of which 135 operate bus routes, 37 operate rail systems and others operate both, APTA officials said in a press release.
The database is a resource for transit agencies, researchers, industry professionals and policymakers seeking to understand the current state of transit fleets to make informed decisions about public transit infrastructure and funding, they said.
Highlights include passenger experience improvements, with 87% of light rail vehicles featuring automated stop announcements, and 81% of light rail vehicles have installed automatic vehicle location systems.
