CATS recommends cost-cutting measure for light-rail extension
advertisement
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has recommended ending the Lynx Blue Line extension (BLE) at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte to reduce the light-rail project’s cost by about 20 percent.
"We are reviewing all aspects of the line, including how to accommodate ridership demand initially and provide flexibility in the future," said Danny Rogers, transit corridor senior project manager for the BLE, in a prepared statement.
One proposed change calls for ending the line at the UNC-Charlotte campus and not extending the line to Interstate 485, Rogers said.
CATS officials scheduled two public meetings this week to provide details and obtain comments on the proposed BLE project changes. The Metropolitan Transit Commission is scheduled to vote on final changes on Jan. 26.
