FRA grants $1 million to Operation Lifesaver

The Federal Railroad Administration recently awarded a $1 million grant to Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI).

The non-profit organization will use a portion of the proceeds for its States Assistance Program, which provides grants to state organizations that manage railroad safety awareness programs. The grant also will support OLI's training and specialized communications programs, publications and other materials.

In addition, OLI plans to develop a training video for commercial truck and bus drivers, provide more outreach resources for the Hispanic/Latino community, create new public service announcements, develop safety initiatives targeting college-age people and 25- to 30-year olds, and re-emphasize trespassing issues.
