Progress Rail Services CEO Ainsworth to serve as Caterpillar VP

Caterpillar Inc. recently appointed Progress Rail Services Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer William Ainsworth vice president, effective Dec. 1. He will continue to head Progress Rail Services, which Caterpillar acquired in June, and report to Caterpillar Group President Steve Wunning.

Ainsworth has led the rail industry supplier since its inception in 1993. In 1983, Ainsworth founded Steel Processing Services and served the firm as president and CEO. Ten years later, Progress Rail Services purchased Steel Processing Services’ operations and two affiliated companies, and retained Ainsworth as president and CEO.

Progress Rail Services supplies reconditioned rail-car components, rail and other track materials, and maintenance-of-way equipment, and provides car and locomotive repair, car dismantling and rail welding services. The company operates more than 90 facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
