The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) later this month will begin the Morrison-Yamhill MAX light-rail improvements project, which calls for rehabilitating sections of the oldest MAX alignment in downtown Portland.The section of track has been in service for more than 30 years, TriMet officials said in a press release.The project, which is slated to start April 30, will cause a three-week disruption to MAX service, as well as a two-week disruption to the Portland Streetcar's service. Crews will remove wooden ties, improve the track bed, upgrade switch machines and replace special trackwork. In addition, workers will replace curved rail at the corners of 1st Avenue and Morrison streets and 1st Avenue and Yamhill streets."The projects reflect TriMet's reinvestment into the MAX system to increase the resiliency of the system and keep trains running on time," agency officials said.
