KCS takes delivery of seven GE locomotives
advertisement
Last week, Kansas City Southern took delivery of seven new Evolution® Series locomotives from GE Transportation. The Class I has ordered a total of 25 Evolution Series units for operations in the United States and Mexico, and the remainder will be delivered by year’s end.
The 4,400-horsepower locomotives feature 12-cylinder diesel engines versus 16-cylinder engines used in conventional GE locomotives. Evolution Series units are designed to reduce diesel particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions by 67 percent and 60 percent, respectively, compared with locomotives manufactured 20 years ago.
“The purchase of these locomotives is part of KCS’ commitment to the safety of employees, the quality of its services and being responsible stewards for the protection of the environment, the communities in which it operates and customers,” KCS officials said in an item posted on the “KCS News” web page.
