BLET organizes 10th short line — Louisville & Indiana Railroad

On Friday, 17 of 19 eligible voters at the Louisville & Indiana Railroad Co. (L&I) cast ballots in favor of being represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET). The workers currently aren't represented.

Owned by Anacostia & Pacific Co Inc., L&I interchanges with Canadian Pacific Railway's Soo Line Railroad, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway, and Paducah & Louisville Railway Inc. The 111-mile short line moves about 33,000 annual carloads of grain, cement, steel, scrap metal, plastics, food products, auto parts, lumber, chemicals, paper and manufactured goods.

During the past two years, BLET has organized nine short lines — adding more than 750 members to the union — including the Portland & Western Railroad Inc., Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C., St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railway Co., Utah Railway Co., Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp., Indiana Southern Railroad, The Texas Mexican Railway Co., and Anacostia & Pacific's New York & Atlantic Railway Co. and Pacific Harbor Line Inc.
