Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen (BLET) members last week ratified a gap-filling agreement with Union Pacific Railroad.

The pact provides a one-time general wage increase of 3% to about 6,000 BLET members employed at UP. The interim raise takes effect Sept. 1.

The raise is temporary and will be replaced by wage increases that are agreed to in the final contract settlement with UP, BLET officials said in a press release.

If the final agreement includes retroactive pay, the amount paid under the interim wage pact will not be included in the calculations of retroactive payments.
