BMWED members re-elect Simpson as president, elect other officers

On Tuesday, members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters re-elected Freddie Simpson national division president at the union’s first regular national division convention in Las Vegas. He’ll serve a four-year term.

Prior to becoming acting president in April 2004 to succeed Mac Fleming, who retired, and president in September 2004, Fleming served as the union’s secretary-treasurer.

Meanwhile, BMWED members also re-elected Perry Geller as national division secretary-treasurer, re-elected four national division vice presidents, elected one new VP, re-elected four national division executive board members and filled one board vacancy.

Founded in 1887, the BMWED represents about 33,000 U.S. railroad workers who build, construct, inspect and maintain tracks, bridges, buildings and other infrastructure.
