WMATA to restore, enhance 42 stations

During the next 18 months, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plans to clean and restore 42 Metrorail stations as part of a $7.5 million station enhancement program.

The work calls for cleaning masonry surfaces, painting interior and exterior surfaces, repairing interior masonry, installing or repairing signs, and refinishing platform shelter benches. WMATA aims to restore each station about every four years.

The enhancements typically take three months or less to complete. Work is performed late at night to avoid operational conflicts.
