Here are five recent developments in the rail supply/service provider industry:
• BNSF Railway Co. has designated Mallory Alexander International Logistics a member of its Premier Transload Network, which includes 115 freight facilities. The designation means the Mallory-operated Northern Plains Commerce Centre (NPCC) in Bismarck, N.D., now can provide rail services to industries that currently aren't rail served. The NPCC features transload capacity to load and unload eight rail cars daily, and handles lumber and construction materials, steel coil, pipe and machinery.
• Alstom won a $71 million contract from Metro de Santiago to supply 36 Metropolis cars for lines 4 and 4A of Santiago, Chile's Metro system. The order is an option from a 2002 contract. Alstom will provide 12 trains, each comprising three stainless-steel Metropolis cars, by 2009's end.
• CONTECH Construction Products Inc. named Ronald Keating president and chief executive officer. Most recently president and chief operating officer, Keating will succeed Patrick Harlow, who will transition out of the CEO role but continue to serve as chairman. CONTECH provides bridge design and construction services to various industries, including the rail industry.
• Hirschmann Automation and Control Inc. named Columbus Equipment Co. the "premier dealer" for Ohio. Columbus Equipment now will carry Hirschmann's entire line of load moment indicators, indicating devices and sensors.
• Rail information services provider RMI has been named to Inbound Logistics' Top 100 Logistics IT Providers for 2008. RMI was selected from among more than 300 companies. The list honors companies that "best solve their logistics and IT challenges," Inbound Logistics magazine said.
