BNSF Railway has awarded 99 shippers with its annual Product Stewardship Award for the safe transportation of hazardous materials by rail.
The Class I honors companies that have transported at least 500 loaded tank cars of hazardous materials with zero non-accident releases during the last year's full transportation cycle, BNSF officials said in a press release.
BNSF implemented the recognition program in 1997. These shippers also upheld the ethics of product stewardship under the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care initiative.
"Safety is a shared responsibility, and at BNSF, we value strong partnerships that make it possible," said BNSF Vice President of Safety Chad Sundem. "Recognizing customers who align with our safety standards reflects our commitment to working together to deliver necessary materials more safely than any other mode of land transportation."
