The Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY) recently began serving Carney Timber Co. in Barrie, Ontario. Last year, the 63-mile short line reached an agreement with the shipper and Western Mechanical to build a siding from the Lorena Street Spur to Carney Timber’s property — the province’s first new industrial siding in 15 years, according to BCRY.
Carney Timber — which supplies composite wood products used to produce lumber, decking and railings — plans to receive raw materials and ship finished products via rail. The company expects to reduce production and delivery costs by using rail, said Operations Manager Duane Burnett in a prepared statement.
Established in 1998 by Cando Contracting Co., BCRY interchanges with Canadian Pacific Railway. The city of Barrie and town of Collingwood own the short line’s track; Cando Contracting operates the lines through BCRY.
