When you own one railroad in Mexico and another in the United States, it can be difficult for English-speaking employees to communicate with fellow Spanish-speaking workers.
Kansas City Southern is trying to remove that language barrier for Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. and Kansas City Southern Railway Co. workers by offering a Web-based learning program.
Earlier this month, KCS introduced an online language learning center for English-speaking employees. Accessible 24-7, the program is designed to teach workers a proficient level of Spanish over the course of six months.
KCS also is offering one-hour classes twice weekly at its corporate headquarters so employees can supplement their training. Employees must register for the program, which next will be offered in January 2008.
