NS to roll out 'Modal-X' door-to-door service (8/7/2006)
8/7/2026On Aug. 21, Norfolk Southern Corp. will launch Modal-X, a Web-based door-to-door intermodal service.
Customers can log onto Modal-X at www.modal-x.com and request next-day transportation. Modal-X will link NS' marketing and ramp-to-ramp capabilities with subsidiary Thoroughbred Direct Intermodal Services (TDIS) door-to-door operational expertise.
Modal-X will offer "truck-like" transportation, current market prices and consistent intermodal equipment supply in key markets, NS said.
The Modal-X network initially will comprise NS' local lanes originating in the Chicago and Morrisville, Pa. Loads will move via a bundled door-to-door service along TDIS' and NS' intermodal network.
