NS seeks locomotive shop recruits in Pennsylvania

Norfolk Southern Corp. plans to hold an employment information and recruiting session on April 12 in Harrisburg, Pa. The Class I is seeking applicants to fill various positions at its Enola Locomotive Shop to meet growing demand and replace retiring employees.

The positions include diesel mechanics to repair systems on diesel-electric locomotives; electricians to work with NS’ locomotive fleet and perform diagnostics, repairs and general maintenance to electrical systems; and firemen and oilers to perform various maintenance tasks on locomotives.

NS has hired more than 800 people since January and anticipates adding 2,000 more workers in 2012. Last month, the Class I held recruiting sessions in Harrisburg and Allentown, Pa., and in Manassas, Va., to solicit train conductor candidates.
