Woman of Influence in Rail

Victoria "Vicki" Matts

Construction manager, project director
STV Inc.

Job history: Vicki joined STV in 2008. Starting as a project controls specialist and advancing to her current role as construction management project director, she has become a cornerstone of STV's long-term partnership with CSX and a key contributor to multiple Class I programs. She has played a key part in numerous multiyear capital programs, including CSX's Howard Street Tunnel clearance improvement project between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Why she's influential as a leader: As leader of STV's CSX public projects team, she manages more than 400 active projects at a time and has managed thousands throughout her career. Her ability to keep each project aligned with agreements, navigate complex schedules and secure resources is a hallmark of her influence in the rail realm. Vicki's operational expertise is a force behind STV's successful partnership with CSX and the larger rail industry.

Her impact extends to team leadership. Many of her staff began with no engineering or rail experience, but under her leadership they've developed from part-time staff or interns into project managers and assistant project managers.

At the heart of her philosophy is the concept of ownership. She encourages her team to take pride in a project from conception to completion. Her focus on the broader scope of project delivery motivates her team and influences how they approach their careers.
