Plastics manufacturer Cereplast Inc. recently completed a rail spur at its recently opened Seymour, Ind., plant.
The $400,000 spur, which connects with a CSX Transportation line, will enable the company to ship biodegradable plastic resins in bulk across the United States to various ports for shipment to customers in Asia, Europe and South America. In March, Cereplast relocated its manufacturing facility from Hawthorne, Calif., to the new 105,000-square-foot Seymour plant.
The company expects to ship 16 million pounds of bio-plastic resins this year in response to “surging consumer and industrial demand for sustainable, ‘green’ products," Cereplast officials said in a prepared statement. Each standard rail car can hold up to 200,000 pounds of bio-plastics.
The spur was funded by the cities of Lawrenceburg and Seymour, and Indiana Economic Development Corp.
