Today, Roger Nober was named chairman of Surface Transportation Board, succeeding Linda Morgan.
Nober, a Maryland Republican who was nominated to the board by President Bush on July 18 and confirmed by the Senate Nov. 14, will serve a term that expires Dec. 31, 2005.
"I am committed to working with my fellow commissioners, the [Bush] Administration, Congress, all of the agency's stakeholders and the dedicated professionals who work at the board on the important issues facing the STB," said Nober in a prepared statement.
Nober previously served as counselor to the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation. From 1997-2001, he served as chief counsel to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and earlier served as counsel to the transportation committee's Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, and minority counsel to the House Committee on Public Works and Transportation's Subcommittee on Surface Transportation.
Morgan plans to continue serving as a board member.
"I want to thank Commissioner Morgan for her eight years of dedicated service leading the board, and the ICC before it, through some of the most difficult times the agency has faced," said Nober.
