Yesterday, Canadian Pacific announced that the section of its mainline east of Medicine Hat, Alberta, that had been closed since June 18 is now open.
The line was closed by a “100-year rainfall event,” which washed out portions of the mainline in southeastern Alberta and Southwestern Saskatchewan, and caused widespread flooding, according to CP.
During the 11-day closure, the Class I used secondary network routes and detour routes on other railroads. CP now will work with shippers and supply-chain partners to reschedule shipments that may have been delayed, CP officials said in a prepared statement.
The railroad estimates the mainline closure will reduce second-quarter earnings by 10 cents to 13 cents per share.
