Yesterday, American Railcar Industries Inc.’s (ARI) board of directors announced it had given the green light to construct a rail-car manufacturing plant adjacent to the company’s tank-car plant in Marmaduke, Ark.
Production at the new “flexible” plant -- which will have the capacity to build tank, covered-hopper and intermodal cars -- is scheduled to begin in early 2008 with the initial capacity of 2,500 tank cars per year. The new facility complements a tank-car expansion already under way at ARI’s existing Marmaduke plant aimed to increase capacity by 1,000 cars annually.
In other ARI news: The board also announced that ARI recently signed agreements with two “important customers” to purchase 2,000 cars per year in 2008 and 2009 – cars that likely would be built at the new Marmaduke plant. ARI also has manufacturing facilities in Paragould, Ark. and Kennett, Mo.
