CSX is selling 373 miles of rail lines to Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad LLC (FGAR), according to a Nov. 6 filing with the Surface Transportation Board (STB).
The notice of intent to acquire the rail lines did not mention a sale price.
The rail lines involved in the transaction run through parts of Tallahassee, Baldwin, Chattahoochee and Pensacola, Florida; and Attapulgus, Georgia.
CSX is "pleased with the transaction" and is evaluating its assets to meet long-term business needs, according to a brief statement company officials made to the Pensacola News Journal.
According to the STB filing, FGAR plans to hire 37 freight operations employees in Tallahassee. Positions to be filled include superintendent of operations, trainmaster, conductor, engineer, track inspector, roadmaster, brakeman, maintenance of way crew, sales and marketing, controller, accounting clerk, bridge-tender and administrator, and office manager.
