Progressive Railroading's August Issue Highlights the Rail Event of the Year

Hi %%FirstName%%,

There's nothing worse than having to "look" busy while checking your email on your phone every 2 minutes in your booth because nobody is stopping in to talk with you about your product. Those make for long and draining days on a trade show floor.

Our August issue features Railway Interchange Product Previews that generate additional foot traffic to your boot, giving a sneak-peek of what you'll have on display on the Interchange show floor. With excitement building throughout the industry in the lead-up to the show in Indianapolis, getting into our Railway Interchange Product Previews is how you can gear up and take steps to ensure your booth is packed with interested attendees.

Of course this issue also covers plenty of other topical industry items. Check out what you'll find in the August issue and we'll help you get the best placement and rate for your brand in August!

Progressive Railroading August 2017
Cover:
Mexico, NAFTA and the Future of Cross-Border Freight
NAFTA uncertainty, border-wall anxiety, less-than-stellar manufacturing output, tepid intermodal demand and a so-so automotive market — there are several governmental and business-climate hurdles facing railroads that move freight in and out of Mexico, and some of them will take an enormous effort to clear. Intensifying tensions between the U.S. and Mexican governments aren't providing any lift, either.

For Kansas City Southern, 40% of annual revenue is generated by cross-border freight. Any potential trip-ups impacting Mexican business can have an effect on the Class I's top line. Likewise, BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad — which count on cross-border traffic to boost revenue and carloads, but not as heavily as KCS — face hits on their financial statements from any carload-sharing developments.

What about Mexican railroads? Sister roads Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. and Ferrocarril del Sureste S.A. de C.V., which interchange with several U.S. Class Is, are confronting similar business-dampening circumstances south of the border.

We frame the cross-border freight picture by discussing trends, challenges and potential remedies with executives from U.S. and Mexican Class Is, as well as some rail industry observers.
Fleet Stats 2017
Progressive Railroading's annual compendium of freight-rail car and locomotive statistics, Fleet Stats, presents an array of Association of American Railroads' facts and figures to create a revealing snapshot of Rail Country. What do fleets look like by car type and age, and by locomotives acquired and rebuilt? Equipment market context from consultant Richard Kloster provides additional insight.
Industry Trends:
Transloading
Transloading is the process of transferring freight from one transportation mode to another to complete a shipment from origin to destination. For example, grain can be trucked to a rail yard, put on a train and railed to a port, then loaded on a ship destined for Europe. Each Class I owns a subsidiary that provides transload services. We check in with execs from some of those subsidiaries to determine if there are any transloading trends and how that segment of Class Is' business is faring these days.
MOW Technology Update:
Material Handling Equipment
When it comes to material handling equipment, railroads have an array of product and services at their disposal. What's new as well as tried and true in the material handling equipment market? A sampling of suppliers provide information on their offerings.
