Woman of Influence in Rail

Robyn Hollander

Director of capital strategy, program development
MTA Metro-North Railroad

Job history: Robyn began working at Metro-North in June 1993 as a senior planner in planning and development. Her career trajectory ranged from manager of transportation to assistant director of environmental. Since July 2023, she has served as director of capital strategy and program development.

Why she's influential in sustainability: For more than three decades, Robyn has worked with Metro-Norths founders and emerging leaders, shaping initiatives that demonstrate her commitment to sustainable infrastructure and its connection to land use. Her work in transit-oriented development (TOD), first mile/last mile access (FMLM), regional coordination, climate resilience, system expansion and asset protection collectively strengthens long-term sustainability across Metro-Norths vulnerable service territory in New York and Connecticut.

Robyn has contributed to several significant Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Metro-North firsts: She helped create the MTAs first web-based interactive planning tool through the FMLM "Mobility Access Study and Extending Transits Reach Strategic Action Plan;" she played a key role in Metro-Norths first TOD at Harrison Station; and worked on the [federal environmental] review for the Harlem Line rail extension from Dover Plains to Wassaic. She was instrumental in siting four new Penn Station access locations in the Bronx and advancing the projects environmental review.

Most recently, she brought her expertise to the MTAs Hudson Line climate resilience blueprint, developing strategies to protect Metro-Norths operations and infrastructure from climate change while improving access along the corridor.
