In February 2025, Progressive Railroading announced its first annual list of "Women of Influence in Rail," a recognition program to highlight the significant contributions women are making in the rail industry.
Now we are launching our 2nd annual Women of Influence in Rail recognition program, starting with the nomination process. In 2026, we will honor women in rail who are influential in these four categories: Leadership, Innovation, Technology and Sustainability.
Progressive Railroading's Women of Influence in Rail recognition is open to women working for North American Class Is, short lines, regional passenger railroads and rail industry suppliers, contractors, product manufacturers or engineering firms that contract with railroads. We also will accept nominations of women who are employed by rail-industry associations.
Nominations must be submitted by, and with the full endorsement of, the nominee's employer and with the knowledge of the nominee. Rail companies and organizations may nominate one woman per category. Self-nominations will not be considered.
Nominations should explain how the nominee is influential in one of the four categories: Innovation, Leadership, Technology or Sustainability. The description of her influence should be up to 500 words and clearly explain how she has helped shape her organization or the rail industry in one of those categories.

We expect to announce the 2026 honorees in Progressive Railroading's Daily News in early January 2026. The women also will be recognized in the magazine's print edition and during a virtual celebration in March 2026.
