Duos Technologies Inc. has been awarded a $1.8 million contract to provide its Rail Inspection Portal (rip®) to an undisclosed rail operation. The installation is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter this year.  Duos believes this order is indicative of an increasing trend in the railroad industry of automating rail-car mechanical inspections, which have historically been conducted manually, company officials said in a press release.

Union Pacific Railroad has deployed RADWIN’s portfolio of Point-to-Point and Point-to-MultiPoint wireless connectivity solutions to help monitor and manage hundreds of remote rail yards through video surveillance networks.

American Track Service (ATS) acquired the track inspection, maintenance and repair services of Savage Industrial Rail Services Inc., Hilltop Private Capital announced. Savage Industrial Rail Services is a subsidiary of Savage Enterprises LLC. The acquisition will expand ATS’ geographic footprint and provide ATS with enhanced capabilities and reach, Hilltop officials said in a press release.

Cubic Corp. appointed Jeffrey Lowinger to senior vice president, and president of the Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division. Prior to joining Cubic, Lowinger worked at Eaton Corp., Boeing, Xworx and Bell Helicopter. Cubic also promoted Laurent Eskenazi to SVP and managing director of North America. Previously, Eskenazi served as acting president of CTS and managing director of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). David Wear will succeed Eskenazi as managing director of EMEA. Previously, Wear has served as acting managing director, VP and chief financial officer of EMEA.

The Transportation Research Board granted Ross & Baruzzini Inc. $100,000 to design, build and test a proof-of-concept augmented reality (AR) user interface for train dispatching. The concept outlines track layout and train information/movement, and enables users to view schedule adherence and information about services and stations. Ross & Baruzzini’s advanced mobility and communications division, MACRO, led on-site research with agency partners, including the Utah Transit Authority, to identify and define functional requirements for the AR display. Ross & Baruzzini then had 360world build the AR interface. Simulations of UTA services are being used in the testing phase, which involves train dispatchers and managers executing typical procedures and scenarios.
