Union Pacific Railroad recently was named one of the 2013 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles by the National Business Group on Health (NBGH). The Class I has received the honor every year since the award's inception in 2005.The award recognizes U.S. companies for promoting healthy work environments and encouraging employees to live healthier lifestyles. UP is the only railroad or transportation company to be honored by the NBGH, according to the Class I.The railroad launched its wellness program more than 25 years ago and since has continued to expand tools available to help employees make healthier choices, and assess and obtain intervention support for health-risk factors."Health and wellness are crucial factors in our employees' safety, as well as the company's success, … and we remain committed to strengthening programs that support employees' well-being," said UP Vice President of Human Resources Roy Schroer in a press release.In addition, UP received a "Go Further" award from Ford Motor Co., which recognized the contributions and support from 35 suppliers and service providers last year in the Evonik Industries AG fire recovery effort. In March 2012, an explosion and fire at Evonik's plant in Marl, Germany, caused a severe shortage of resins used to produce a range of automotive parts.Meanwhile, Dow Quimica Mexicana recently recognized Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) for service performance and collaborative sustainability improvements in 2012.The award previously focused on security and was expanded to encompass economic development, environmental management and social responsibility."We are very proud to receive this award, because it is the result of the good work we're doing in a number of areas and a clear example of everyone's commitment to achieving positive outcomes," said Yesica Gloria Marrufo, KCSM's assistant vice president of carload sales-Mexico, in an item posted on the "KCS News" web page. "As a next step, we will meet with Dow to gather feedback on areas where we can improve even further."
