Loram's Specialty Rail Grinders vary in size from 4 to 24 stones and have the flexibility to grind switches, crossings and other obstacles at up to 75 degree angles with 30 horsepower grind motors. By utilizing the same high productivity grind motors as Loram's production rail grinders, Loram's specialty grinders are also capable of grinding curves between mainline grinding cycles. The smaller machine design offers flexibility in grinding in tight clearances for transit railroads. The 30 horsepower grind motors ensure high production specialty rail grinding programs for both transits ands Class I railroads, the company says. Loram's specialty grinders have hydraulic grind module control valves designed to provide a positive means of addressing only the high spots associated with corrugation, welds and other defects, while bridging the low spots. The positive control will restrict unnecessary metal removal in low spots, the company says.
