L.B. Foster's adjustable guard rails are recommended for use on both yard and mainline tracks. Installation is achieved by sliding the guard rail unit under the running rail and spiking it down, eliminating the need to drill bolt holes in the running rail. The flangeway opening between the guard rail and the running rail can be easily changed after the guard rail has been installed in track. As the guard rail wears, it can be brought closer to the running rail by inserting adjustment shims, stored on the guard rail, between each guard rail brace and the guard rail itself. A total of 3/8-inch adjustment is possible in 1/8-inch increments. No pulling of spikes or respiking is necessary. The adjustable guard rail can be manufactured for most rail sections in any length for any tie spacing.
