Rail Experience Deshmukh began her rail career in 2011 in systems engineering and telecommunicators, where she quickly became a trusted leader for her ability to translate complex technology into practical, reliable solutions for railroad operations. From the start, her work was driven not only by technical outcomes, but by a desire to create systems that empower employees and strengthen safety, reliability and efficiency across the network. In her career progression to general director, Deshmukh has led teams across systems engineering, emerging technologies, application development and data management. She has played a key role in modernizing railroad technology platforms and preparing Union Pacific Railroad for the future.

She is committed to developing people, expanding opportunities and strengthening the future of the rail industry. She invests in others, helping them see career paths forward and empowering them to grow with confidence and purpose.

Through the UP Tech Department's mentorship program, Deshmukh has mentored multiple individuals, providing consistent, thoughtful guidance tailored to each mentee's career goals and strengths. She has played a key role in developing UP initiatives that encourage employees to pursue cross-functional projects and roles, and she is active in multiple UP employee resource groups. Deshmukh is also a mentor in the Union Pacific X Creighton University Scholars program, helping connect academic learning with real-world perspectives from the rail industry.
