Rail Experience: Heimowitz started his career at the MTA Long Island Rail Road in 2008 and progressed into leadership roles, directing major capital projects. He joined Tectonic Engineering in 2021, founding and leading the firm's rail and transit division. Under Heimowitz's leadership, the division has grown into a robust practice of over 50 professions. The group provides project and construction management services and rail engineering expertise for rail projects, including Second Avenue Subway Phase 2, the LIRR Hall Interlocking Expansion and the New York & Susquehanna Railway's role in the Hudson Tunnel program. Heimowitz was named a Progressive Railroading Rising Star in 2014.

Mentorship Role: Heimowitz' division at Tectonic is comprised of many early career engineers. He's created a culture where curiosity is encouraged and learning is structured. Junior staff routinely receive one-on-one coaching, tailored assignments that expand technical and leadership skills and rapid feedback that accelerates professional growth.

Beyond internal mentorship, Heimowitz volunteers as a lead trainer for the CMAA, teaching the Professional Construction Management course to aspiring young professionals. His instruction is practical and grounded in real project experience. Heimowitz also regularly delivers webinars on construction management topics tailored to the rail industry — subjects include delivery methods, contract strategies and the fundamentals of railway infrastructure.

He represents Tectonic at college career fairs and industry outreach events, and his volunteer engagement extends into K-12 STEM outreach. Heimowitz volunteers to speak to middle- and high-school classes about rail and transit engineering, introducing students to core concepts, career possibilities and the societal impact of rail infrastructure.
