Rail Experience: During Matheson's more than 20 years with Tacoma Rail, he has held numerous positions, progressing from trainmaster to superintendent. His calm, thoughtful demeanor and business acumen serve the best interests of his staff, customers and the citizens of Tacoma, who own the railroad. Along with electric power and drinking water utilities, Tacoma Rail reports to a public utility board. This unique model creates challenges and opportunities that are not common in the railroad industry. Matheson has also held leadership roles at the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, including long-standing membership convention planning committee, the legislative and policy committee and the Pacific Region board.
