This year, Progressive Railroading is launching Rail Mentor Awards
to recognize the people who do the crucial work of developing and guiding the next generation of rail professionals.
We define a rail mentor as someone who takes part in an established mentorship program or initiative through their employer or a professional association. Rail mentors foster career growth in mentees by providing ongoing guidance and advice. They should be viewed by their company, rail industry peers and mentees as having a meaningful impact on others' rail careers and the North American railroad industry.
Progressive Railroading's Rail Mentor Awards program is open to employees from North American Class Is, short lines, passenger railroads, rail industry suppliers and service providers and professional associations. Up to three nominations per company or association will be accepted.
Nominations may only be submitted by, and with the full endorsement of, the nominee's employer or professional association. Nominees must know they are part of a mentorship program and are being nominated for this recognition. Self-nominations will not be considered.
In up to 500 words, nominations should describe the mentor's impact on their company or professional association and the railroad industry as a whole. The description should clearly explain how the nominee supports, guides and nurtures mentees' rail careers.

Nominations for recognition in 2026 are due no later than March 31, 2026.

We expect to announce the 2026 honorees in Progressive Railroading's Daily News in late April. The honorees will also be recognized in the magazine's print edition in June.
