Illinois Western to serve Alternative Energy Sources' second ethanol plant in Land of Lincoln

Alternative Energy Sources Inc. (AENS) recently announced plans to build a 110-million-gallon-capacity ethanol plant in Greenville, Ill., adjacent to BNSF Railway Co. and CSX Transportation mainlines. The facility will be served by Illinois Western Railroad Co., which interchanges with the Class Is.

AENS plans to begin building the plant — which will produce 100 carloads of ethanol weekly — next year. To be completed in late 2008, the facility will be located within five miles of Interstate 70, and 30 miles from Interstates 55 and 64.

“With both rail and truck shipping capabilities readily available, we will be able to serve national markets as well as neighboring communities,” said AENS President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Beemer in a prepared statement.

AENS previously announced plans to construct a 110 million-gallon-capacity plant in Kankakee, Ill., adjacent to a Canadian National Railway Co. mainline and a similar-sized facility in Boone County, Iowa, that will be served by Union Pacific Railroad.
