Canadian, Quebec governments pursue yard revitalization project in Montreal

advertisement

The governments of Canada and Quebec recently announced they’ve prioritized the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the Outremont rail yard in Montreal. The more than $100 million project could receive joint funding of up to $54 million from federal and provincial sources, and another $54 million from the city of Montreal.

The project calls for dismantling existing tracks in the Outremont yard, constructing a new rail corridor at the north end of the site, demolishing a service road, building a railway overpass and constructing a tunnel to link with the Acadie Metro station.

In 2006, the University of Montreal purchased the yard — which was built in 1881 — and land from Canadian Pacific. The project is designed to revitalize the site into a major activity hub in the center of Montreal.
