RTD board to negotiate with Genova for GM, CEO post

The Regional Transportation District of Denver's (RTD) board late last week entered into contract negotiations with Dave Genova as the agency's new general manager and chief executive officer.

Genova has been serving as RTD's interim GM and CEO since April and has been with RTD for more than 21 years, serving as the assistant GM of safety, security and facilities for the past eight years. In that position, his responsibilities have included the oversight of safety certification for rail-line openings and the renovated Denver Union Station.

"After conducting a nationwide search, and interviewing three very talented finalists, we concluded Dave was the best fit to lead RTD moving forward," said RTD Chairman Charles Sisk in a press release. "We have a long history of developing leadership from within the agency."

Pending results of the contract negotiations, the board hopes to provide Genova an offer by the end of the year, Sisk said.

As GM and CEO, Genova would succeed Phillip Washington, who resigned earlier this year to accept the top executive post of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Meanwhile, the RTD has named Nate Currey senior manager of public relations.

In the new role, Currey will oversee the planning and implementation of the agency's public engagement process, strategic communications and special events, including outreach for five new FasTracks transit corridors opening in the Denver area next year, RTD officials said in a press release.

He'll also respond to information requests by the media, the public and government agencies.
