A relationship reset: Bombardier, Metrolinx amend Eglinton Crosstown LRV contract
Bombardier Transportation and Metrolinx have amended the contract terms and settled an arbitration with Metrolinx to produce light-rail vehicles (LRVs) for the upcoming Eglinton Crosstown light-rail system.
The amended contract "resets the relationship ... and brings certainty to the completion of this project," Bombardier officials said in a Dec. 21 statement.
Under the agreement, Bombardier will manufacture 76 LRVs for the Eglinton Crosstown project, 106 vehicles fewer than the original contract for 182 vehicles. The Eglinton Crosstown line is scheduled to open in 2021.
In addition, Bombardier's GO Transit operations and maintenance contract was extended by 18 months.
Metrolinx owns GO Transit, which provides public transportation services in southern Ontario.
In May, Metrolinx ordered 61 Citadis Spirit light-rail cars from Alstom, 44 of which would be for the Eglinton Crosstown line, if Bombardier were "unable to fulfill its contract," Metrolinx officials said. If the Alstom vehicles weren't needed for Eglinton Crosstown, they'd be reassigned for the Hurontario light-rail project, Metrolinx officials said.

"Bombardier is fully committed to the Metrolinx project and to the people of the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area."
