The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) today reopened service on the Red Line between the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Station and Tower City Rapid Station in Cleveland, following retaining wall repairs.

A portion of the Red Line between the airport and West Boulevard-Cudell Station has been closed for nearly three months as crews repaired and stabilized an s-curve retaining wall on the Red Line’s west side, GCRTA officials said in a press release.

The $1.3 million project involved installation of 75 steel beam frames to stabilize 300 feet of retaining wall. GCRTA contractors and engineers completed all final safety checks and testing last week, authority officials said.

“It was not an easy decision to close our rail line because of the inconvenience to our riders, but we had to put the safety of our customers first,” said GCRTA Interim Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Floun’say Caver.
