The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) yesterday filed a legal complaint in Santa Clara County Superior Court against Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 265, claiming the strike that began March 10 is a breach of a “no strike” clause in the parties’ agreement.

The goal of the legal action is bring an end to the strike that led to a shutdown of bus and light-rail services in the California community, VTA officials said in a press release.

"VTA is an integral part of the transportation network for Santa Clara County and the region overall. Getting our buses and trains rolling is imperative,” said VTA General Manager/CEO Carolyn Gonot.

VTA has been engaged in extensive bargaining with ATU since August 2024 and remains committed to continuing talks with ATU to reach a fair agreement, VTA officials said.

ATU represents over 1,500 VTA employees, including bus and light-rail operators, maintenance staff, dispatchers, fare inspectors and customer service representatives.
