CN, CP to serve two new G3 grain elevators in Alberta
Canadian Pacific and CN will serve two new high-efficiency grain elevators that G3 Canada Ltd. has plans to build near Irricana and Stettler County, Alberta.
Both facilities will have a capacity of 42,000 metric tons and a railway loop track that can accommodate a 150-car unit train, according to a G3 press release.
Construction is slated to start this summer, pending regulatory approvals, company officials said. The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
Like G3's other high-efficiency facilities in western Canada, the elevators will be able to unload a Super B truck in less than five minutes, company officials said.
CP will serve the Stettler County facility and CN, the Irricana facility.
"Central Alberta is one of the most important grain growing regions in Canada," says G3 Chief Executive Officer Don Chapman. "We are excited to be able to provide farmers in the region a new choice to market their grain through modern facilities that will save them time and money."
G3 has four other high-efficiency elevators under construction: at Morinville, Wetaskiwin and Carmangay, Alberta; and at Maidstone, Saskatchewan. In addition, G3 has a port terminal under construction in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
