House transportation committee to hold another Amtrak hearing

Tomorrow, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) will hold another in his series of hearings on Amtrak's operations.

The hearing will focus on Amtrak's structural reorganization plan, which was launched to improve the railroad's performance and accountability, according to a press release issued yesterday by Mica's office.

Scheduled to testify are Joseph Boardman, Amtrak's president and chief executive officer; Ted Alves, inspector general of the Amtrak Office of Inspector General; and James Stem, national legislative director for the United Transportation Union.

In November 2011, Amtrak unveiled its Strategic Plan for fiscal-year 2011-2015. The railroad now is undergoing a structural reorganization as part of that plan. The reorganization is projected to be fully implemented by the end of FY2013, according to the press release.
