Los Angeles MTA posts double-digit rail ridership gains in October

Despite falling gas prices, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's ridership continued to climb in October. Average weekday boardings on the Metro Rail system jumped 16.6 percent vs. October 2007’s average.

The Metro Gold Line, which links downtown L.A. and Pasadena, posted weekday ridership of 24,000, up 29.9 percent year over year. Average weekday ridership on the Red and Purple lines between downtown L.A. and North Hollywood skyrocketed 20.9 percent to 154,935.

Meanwhile, the downtown L.A.-to-Long Beach Blue line averaged 80,577 passengers per weekday, up 9.3 percent, and the Norwalk-to-El Segundo Green Line averaged 41,746 riders daily, up 9.9 percent vs. October 2007’s totals.
