Rail News: Passenger Rail

Virgin Trains beefs up IT infrastructure

With an eye on its goal of "revolutionizing rail travel" by 2003, Virgin Trains Sept. 25 implemented the latest version of Novel Inc.’s network operating system, NetWare 6, with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young providing systems integration expertise.

Virgin Trains carries 30 million passengers annually on CrossCountry Trains — England’s national rail network — and West Coast Trains, which serves passengers between London, Glasgow and northwest England.

After 2003, Virgin Trains officials anticipate serving up to 60 million passengers annually.
