Virginia port reached second-best volume levels in February
The Port of Virginia
in February handled 169,390 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 7.9 percent compared with February 2012.
Container volume reached 96,404 units and general cargo volume (including containers and breakbulk freight) totaled 1,439,330 tons.
"Though February isn't normally a high-volume month, this was the second-best February in our history in terms of TEUs and general cargo tonnage," said Virginia Port Authority Interim Executive Director Rodney Oliver in a press release. "Our rail containers were up 17 percent for the month and almost 14 percent for the calendar year."
Through February, the port's year-to-date TEU volume rose 5.4 percent compared with the same 2012 period.
