CSX honors 69 chemical shippers' safety efforts
yesterday named 69 recipients of its 19th annual Chemical Safety Excellence Awards, which recognize chemical shippers' efforts to help safely transport hazardous materials by rail.
Nearly two-thirds of the 2012 honorees are repeat winners, "demonstrating continued dedication to safety and a strong partnership with CSX," the railroad's officials said in a press release.
The awards are presented to customers who ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials during a given year without a product release due to such factors as not properly securing valves or closures. The Class I works with chemical shippers to ensure the materials move in the safest equipment possible, and trains its employees on safe loading and handling procedures, CSX officials said.
"I commend all of the recipients for their ongoing dedication to the safe transportation of materials that are critical to businesses and consumers," said CSX Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward.
